1856 City founded
240,000 City population
1930 BSPU founded

Blagoveshchensk is often referred to as the "gateway to China" due to its unique position on the border with China. The neighboring city of Heihe lies directly across the Amur River — making this the only place in the world where two cities of different countries face each other at such close range. Many Chinese companies operate in the Amur region in the fields of construction, agriculture, forestry, and tourism.

BSPU is one of the oldest educational institutions in the Far East. The university occupies the historical center of the city, steps from the Amur River embankment, and is easily reachable by public transport. A dedicated hostel for international students is located directly opposite the main building.

The university employs around 200 faculty members, more than 80% of whom hold academic degrees. Scientific work is carried out across 8 branch laboratories covering environmental biochemistry & biotechnology, condensed matter physics, archaeology & ethnography, organoelement chemistry, and more. Applied integrated projects are implemented through a scientific and educational center that brings together over 20 researchers and 6 unique scientific collections.
